Environmental Journal Recognizes Firms for Business Achievement in Growth, M&A, IT, AI, Technology, Project Merit, Industry Leadership and Social Contribution

San Diego, Calif. (January 2026) —Environmental Business Journal®* (EBJ), an independent business research publication that has provided strategic market intelligence to the environmental industry* since 1988, has honored Herndon Solutions Group (HSG) with a Business Achievement Award for Project Merit: Sustainable Watershed Remediation in 2025.

“In a year of growth but some volatility for the $570-billion U.S. environmental industry in 2025, a number of companies distinguished themselves with business model evolution, new practices, technical innovation, M&A, or signature projects that merit the special recognition of an EBJ Business Achievement Award. With traditional environmental markets in infrastructure, air quality, remediation, water and wastewater, as well as energy transition and climate resilience, it is understandable that companies report growing demand for environmental technology and services,” said Grant Ferrier, editor of Environmental Business Journal and chair of the EBJ Business Achievement Award selection committee.

“Pivoting with political change and overcoming the multiple challenges of inflation, supply chains, wage increases, labor shortages and changing markets has almost become routine for the resilient leaders in the environmental industry.”

HSG was recognized for its work on sustainable watershed remediation for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). HSG partnered with the BLM to advance remediation strategies in the Bonita Peak Mining District, one of the nation’s most complex Superfund sites. HSG investigated more than 40 mine-impacted locations using a watershed-level approach, evaluating features such as draining adits, waste rock, tailings, and groundwater interactions to determine their influence on water quality and ecological risk. This holistic methodology enabled BLM to prioritize cleanup actions at sites with the greatest potential to improve downstream water quality and reduce human and ecological exposure. In addition, HSG developed a comprehensive database integrating decades of historical data with new field investigations, creating a centralized resource for long-term management. The program transitioned in 2025 from active remediation to long-term monitoring, marking a major milestone in restoring water quality and safeguarding public lands. By combining technical innovation, data-driven decision-making, and local workforce engagement, HSG delivered a model for sustainable watershed remediation that strengthens environmental stewardship and community resilience.

The 2025 EBJ awards will be presented live and in-person at the EBJ Business Achievement Awards banquet at Environmental Industry Summit XXIV on April 1-3, 2026, in San Diego, along with CCBJ Business Achievement, Lifetime Achievement and 50-Year Company anniversary awards.
